I have a 20+ yr old Cockatiel. Recently I noticed a tanish/brownish stuff on the edge of her feathers. I pulled it off first time I noticed it but it came back. I just clipped the feathers that were affected but am concerned that it will return. When I first saw it I thought it she had dipped her wings in her pellet food and that it stuck to her. Now I don't think that's the case. I also noticed a lump on one of her wings that is skin covered, I believe that may be a tumor or some other such growth so I left that alone. Have a hard time trusting vets, not too many seem qualified with birds, each time I've gone I've lost a bird. Is there a site I can research that will show pictures of Cockatiels affected by mites so that I can see if that's what this may be? Any suggestions?
Odd growth on Cockatiel Feathers. Looks like Pellets or Spray food. Removed/Returned.?

Here's a link to a good website on Teils ~ It talks about feather conditions and problems. I hope this helps you. Good luck and I hope your birdie is okay.
