Sagging Lump In Kittens Tummy?

I have a 5 month old male kitten and very noticeable hanging down under is tummy is what seems to be a growth.


I'm not sure if this normal, extra skin to grow into maybe, but wasnt sure if it needed a vet trip to investigate further.?

There are lots of options, and most probably non-scary, like a hernia. But with a "lump" there is always the chance of cancer, and because that is possible, you should get the kitten to a vet and have the mass evaluated.





This sounds scary, and I don't want to scare you, but just inform you. I have done volunteer work with cat rescue groups here in NYC, and I have indeed seen cancer in a kitten. So it does happen.





Don't be frightened, but do be warned. A lump is always something that needs evaluation, and you should get your kitten to the vet.
Reply:Was a lump always there, could it be an umbilical hernia that's getting larger?


If so, need to see a vet to get fixed,.. simple operation.


But without knowing exactly the shape, density, etc. of, hard to say,... but would venture that with a young kitty the percentage of it being cancer is low.

Reply:Hey I noticed the same with one of my kittens as well. It just hangs like loose skin. It is not noticeable when the cat is stretched out but I can see it when its standing normal and laying down normal. I grab it to examine it, it just feels like skin (no lumps or anything) and the kitty doesn't seem bothered by it. Does your kitten act like it hurts?


I'm going to ask the vet when I take them in to get neutered.
Reply:Sounds like an umbilical hernia. This sometimes happens if the mother cat chews the cord off too short. It's not painful, and when you take him to be neutered, the vet can trim that off, too. That happened to one of my male cats, and it was no problem. It's about time for him to see the vet, anyway. Have you been taking him for his shots? The vet should have noticed this "growth" when he was examined!! 5 monthis is a good time to get him "fixed", BEFORE he starts spraying your house!! Good luck....
Reply:Have u desex ur kitten? My 3 kitties developed this sagging 'lump' 2 months after sterilisation. I was too worried but my vet assured me that it was fats, they're gaining weight that's why. And it's also quite normal for kittens/cats to put on weight after desex.
