Slow hair growth!!?

i have a rescued silky and her hair grows really really slowly!! like reallly reaaallllyy sowly! i had to shave all her hair off as she was completely knotted and had a skin allergy and fungus so the skin needed to breath. now everything has cleared up and she is very happy.

but her hair growth is very slow. after 2 months of having her, her hair has only gown like 2cm. my maltese grows that much in maybe 3 weeks.

is it the food i am giving her? or is there nothing i can do? i mean is it normal with a silky that it takes so long?

thanks for answers

i know it sounds like an odd question but i was wondering and bored! :o)

Slow hair growth!!?
It takes a while. Be patient.

You could try supplements. California Natural has one that works wonders. www.naturapet.com for more information.

Ark Naturals is a whole line of natural, herbal supplements to try as well. www.arknaturals.com

Good luck
Reply:it could be because of the skin fungi. my dog had ringworm really bad on his face when I first got him. That was almost a year ago. There are still 3 spots left where the hair has not grown in very well yet. So it could take a long time for your dog too
Reply:I'm having a similar problem at the moment with my staffie. She had a bad case of skin mites which caused her hair to fall out in patches. She has been to the vet today and last week and the week before and the tests have come back that the mites are all gone but her hair is growing back very slowly too. I think it is normal if the skin has had a problem. The allergy has probably infected the hair follicle as well so that might still be recovering. I have been adding one capsule of evening primrose oil to he diet and i think it is helping. Hair is made up of proteins and amino acids so if you can put some protein in her diet this might help. I am a people hairdresser and have studied how hair grows and what it is made up of. Just be patient I am sure she will fully recover good luck!!!!
Reply:some medical conditions will cause hair growth to be really slow or not at all. (hypothyroidism, cushings). You should talk to a vet.
Reply:We rescued a yorkie/schnauzer mix that was malnourished %26amp; was knotted. And she had alot of skin problems. After all was taken care of by the vet, we had to feed her a high protein diet which helped her hair. But it still took almost a year for her coat to come in full. Just be patient %26amp; continue good care %26amp; she'll be beautiful before you know it.
Reply:The hair folicles may have got damaged by the fungus. As long as it is growing this is good. You could help stimulate the skin and folicles by a massage.. increasing the blood flow and healing processes of the skin.

Try the TT (Tellington Touch). Small circular motions over the skin and especially the spots that need additional growth

good Luck
