NF and pregnancy?

I have NF 1... and a very small case of it... just a few growths on my skin... and thats it, no other complications... my boyfriend does not have it. i know its a 50% chance that it will be passed on... but if my case is really small does that mean the kids, if any have it will have a small case too? we are not having kids any time soon... i just worry about this from time to time.

Hi, I have NF type one as well. I too have had little to no problems with it besides the frakles under my armpits and the what not. Yes you could pass it on, but not diffentaly. It effects cromosone 26 I belive although am a little rusty on my info on this. Now just because yours is small dosn't mean if you pass it on it will be small as well. But heres my family history. My father has NF, him and my mother had four kids, I was the only one to get NF and I to have a very milded case. So just because it could still be a 50/50 chance dosnt mean it will acctually be just that. Now don't really worry about it that much at the moment until you think that kids are something that you really want sometime soon, then just go to some good doctors, but don't just take the first doc. sugestion. Good luck, and I didnt think it was rude to just say NF, it takes so long to spell out and then try to say what it is....

Reply:hi darl, i to have NF type 1 it effects chromosome 17 NF effects all ppl differently even ppl in the same family i have a very mild case a few cafelaite _sry bout the spelling) marks and some freckling in my armpit. Just because u have a mild case doesn't mean anything ur children could get a more server case and it may develop into NF2 hate to sound so blunt but its the truth b4 u start having children i recommend seeing a genetic counsellor that's what my plan is
