My cat has a strange growth on her side...help!?

My cat has recently developed a strange growth on the side of her body, in the stomach region. It is on the surface of her skin (as in, it rests on the surface of her skin and doesn't appear to delve any deeper) and looks and feels like a horn; it appeared over the course of a few days and fell off, but there is a hairless patch, as well as an indentation in the skin, where it was. Her fur is black, and so was this growth. The area of her stomach near the growth is very tender and she seems to experience pain if touched there. My vet can't get her in until next week, but in the meantime, I'm worried and would like some reassurance, if possible. Does anyone know what this could possibly be?

Thanks.

If you feel she's in pain, she should be seen asap. If your regular vet can't find time to see her and you've voiced your concern to them of this growth, then find another vet in the area who will take you sooner to have the growth looked at and to have your mind eased. If you don't want to do that, then leave a message for the vet and have him/her call you back so that you can ask him/her what they believe it might be.

Working in a vet clinic, I know that sometimes the receptionist doesn't have any idea on what is something that is serious or something that can wait. But always, if a client voices their concerns about something, we ALWAYS find a way to squeeze them in to be seen. Perhaps you need to be a bit pushier (the squeeky wheel pretty much gets the oil where I work, lol).
Reply:umm its called going to a vet so your cat dosent have to suffer with somthing that can be treatable.
Reply:I know it is a fatty pack my neighbors dog had like 6 of em. they are harmless but you should go check it out still
