Ingrown Toenail; How long does it take to heal after procedure? I had it removed 1 week ago?

It still looks a bit pink/reddish. It never did look really bad. They did the novocaine thing. All the doctor said to do was put polysporin on it. But, I don't how long to keep a bandaid on it. There is still a thick growth of skin, and its still looks infected low on the ridge. I had been to the dr 3Xs before they took the nail. It never did look more than pink/reddish, never pus or broken. I need to know about after care and how length of time to expect healing to take. Thanks!

Keep the dressing that the doctor applied on for 2 days.

On the second day, remove the dressing and wash with soap and water. Then apply triple antibiotic ointment (you can buy this at the drug store) and put on new gauze. Repeat this procedure twice a day until healed.

The doctor may want to recheck the wound in 3-5 days.

Take any antibiotics, if prescribed, as directed.

Keep the wound clean and dry. Follow any specific wound care instructions given by the doctor.

For the first 3 days, keep the foot propped up above the level of the heart as much as possible. This will aid in pain control.

If the doctor prescribed pain medicine, then take it as directed. Otherwise, acetaminophen (such as Tylenol) or ibuprofen (such as Motrin) may be used for pain control if you have no allergies to this medication. Healin may take two to three weeks to complete.
Reply:soak it is epsun salt..if you dont have that then regular salt will work..

it will sting but only for a second do this once a day for three day..

best results guarenteed.
Reply:I think your toe is probably fine by now.. I had the toenail removal surgery in October. The day after I had to take the bandage they put on my toe off and I had to soak it in warm water and then soak it three times a day the next couple of days... but since its been a week you have probably already done that.

What I did because I was worried about it was I bought some gauze pads and some tape at the store and wrapped it up with a new bandage every day for two weeks and I wore a flip flop on that foot just to give it room... but I did that because I wanted to give it a chance to heal without anything having to really touch it. And I still have a gap where the nail they removed was, but I had a pretty good amount of nail removed so you may not have that.

Since it has been a week it is probably almost done healing, I think mine took a week to a week and a half, but mine was pretty bad. I am looking at the paper my doctor gave me and it says to look for signs of wound infection which are: heat, redness or swelling around the wound; increasing pain or tenderness; any drainage after 48 hours; and red streaks going up the arm or leg.

Hopefully this helps! :)
