Growth pattern?

Abnormal growth pattern?

I am an 18 year old male( turning 19 in 2 months) and I have grown 3/4 of an inch in the past year. However my growth as always kind of been steady, I never really had a huge growth spurt( peak was 2 inches in one year 14-15) At 5'8 3/8 at just 15 my growth pattern told me that I was going to be 5'11, well it never happened( Dad is 5'11 mom 5-4-5'5) Both of my grandpas were 6 feet). when I turned 17 I had grown only to 5 foot 9. I Thought I was done growing( even though I looked like a 14 year old without any hair on my face) Well when I turned 18 during last summer, all of a sudden my voice started cracking, started growing light facial hair, pimples all over the place and grew 3/4 of an inch to my current height of 5'9 3/4. I still have very oily skin and my voice still breaks soemtimes and my facial hair grows very slow. Do you think I am going to be one of those people who doesn't stop growing until 21 or I have stopped already? Has anyone hear experienced this?

Growth pattern?
As a male, you will continue to grow until you are 21 so, yes, you could still get taller. However, none of us can predict how tall you will be. Your height is predetermined by genetics.

At 5'9" you are definitely not short so why even worry about it? Do you know the average height of a woman is 5'4" so you would tower over most woman. Enjoy who you are and don't worry about your height. Exuding confidence will make you look taller than you are so feel confident in who you are.

Growth Growth?
Men can continue to grow until the age of 21. You still have a little while to reach your predicted height.

It may be still 2 years that you cont. growing. but not that rate.I will say u may gain a ht of 5' 10.5"+. All the best!
Reply:I am no expert at this, but assuming everything you said is true , it sounds like you have a lot of physical maturing left in you(height, facial hair, strenght etc).
Reply:Thereis not a patern as such so inches grown may vary, they actually seem to have slown down becdasue you are about to reach your peak, men usually grow up untill 19-20 y/o.

You have a pretty good height I'd say it is the average in northamerica, you will still bulk up and may still hit the 6 feet mark so be happy with what u got, look around you do you see more shorter or taller folks than you?

A growth on my back for a year??

I have a growth on my back that appeared about a year ago, it is skin colored and about the size of a pea. It doesn't hurt. I just thought that I developed a wart(yuck) and paid no attention to it, then I showed my friend and she doesnot believe it is a wart. What could it be and could it be dangerous?

A growth on my back for a year??
It sounds like a lipoma. Please read the following:

"A lipoma is a benign tumor of fatty tissue, meaning a non-cancerous lump of fat cells. Lipomas, the most common benign growth of soft tissue, do not become cancerous over time. Typically less than an inch in diameter, they are located directly under the skin. Lipomas grow incredibly slowly, if at all, and usually occur in multiples, particularly in families. To the touch, lipomas are often soft, painless, and moveable under the skin. Although they may occur anywhere on the body, lipomas are usually located on the chest, upper thighs and arms, neck, and shoulders. Men and women of any age can develop lipomas, though they are more often seen among middle-aged people.

The cause of lipomas is unclear. Some possibilities include having had a minor injury at the site where the lipoma will develop, heredity, and chromosomal abnormalities. Lipomas do not appear to be caused by what you eat or whether you are overweight or obese.

If you notice what could be a lipoma on your body, it's a good idea to have it checked out by a health care provider or dermatologist. This allows your provider to examine the lump and rule out other possibilities, such as liposarcoma, which is a rare cancerous tumor composed of fatty tissue that is firmer in texture than a lipoma. If liposarcoma is suspected, a biopsy would be requested to help diagnose the growth.

As long as a lipoma is not causing any discomfort, such as tenderness, irritation, pain, or infection, no treatment is necessary. In addition, the development of new lipomas and the continued growth of existing ones cannot be prevented by treatment. However, some people who have multiple lipomas, a large lipoma, or a lipoma that is situated close to a muscle, limiting movement, may consider having them surgically removed. If someone is unhappy with the appearance of lipoma(s) on his or her body, cosmetic removal of lipomas is an option, and it is usually not covered by many health insurance plans. In this case, how one forms scar tissue and the likely recurrence of lipomas need to be considered before proceeding with cosmetic surgery, to make sure that the end result will not look worse than the lipoma itself as it is."
Reply:See a dermatologist. They can determine the kind of growth it is and if it is dangerous to your health.
Reply:It could be a skin tag or a growth filled with fat.. Have your doctor or a dermatologist determine what it really is.
Reply:Not to scare you, but it could be skin cancer. I would get it checked out.
Reply:Have it checked out!

Apparently it's a rare skin disorder called Lewandowsky-Lutz Dysplasia. This genetic disorder occurs when growths made out of keratin (what nails are made of) start growing out of your hands and feet, becoming spines.

I know it's pretty freaky - but that's why you clicked on the link right?

Is 'Excessive' Hair Growth coded by a recessive gene.?

Assuming that we did evolve from monkeys, then we have lost a fair amount of bodily hair. As far as i am aware evolution takes place according to "survival of the fittest". It would make sense for mokeys etc to have lots of hair because the monkeys that did not have much hair would die in the cold.... but why was hair lost when humans began to evolve from monkeys? Primitive man wrapped him... or herself in layers of animal fur/skin. This means that whether humans had the gene coding for excessive hair growth wouldnt matter as humans could survive the winter by using the hair/fur/skin of animals that had been killed.

So looking at the humans we are today and the "monkey - like" hairy humans years ago, why has their been a decline in hair growth as it has proved no benefit to humans?

And dos this mean further evolution will lead us to have no hair at all if the gene is recessive?

Sorry if this is all wrong - just an idea - what are your thoughts?

Is 'Excessive' Hair Growth coded by a recessive gene.?
Because there are so many genes involved in hair development, it is simply not possible to examine the recessive / dominant nature of the genes involved.

Worse still some of the genes are involved in hair growth irrespective of body location, whereas the action of other is much more location specific. Arguably the most significant factor in the predisposition of skin to grow hair is the proximity of the inductive mesenchyme relative to the overlying epithelium, and of course this is genetically determined.

However, there are also a number of genes responsible for hair growth at the local level. The hair follicle cycle (anagen, catagen, and telogen) is driven by one set of genes, Alopecia (baldness of the head) is mainly governed by the expression of the Androgen receptor (AR), whereas hirutism is largely the result of genes such as LEF-1, SF-1, CYP11A, DAX-1 plus probably a few dozen others that I've never come across or had time to investigate.

Ultimately you're absolutely correct in that our own efforts to keep warm led to us losing our hair coats, but remember that there is an evolutionary advantage to losing hair - we don't have to expend the metabolic cost of generating and maintaining it.

So will we lose the hair on our heads? Well I guess that depends on whether women are sexually attracted to bald men or not. If they're less attracted to them, then baldness will be bread out of the gene pool over time. But equally they could become very attracted to them, leading to more bald men passing on their "alopecia genes" to their offspring, ultimately leading to a greater level of baldness in future generations.
Reply:Yes.

"a condition known a hypertrichosis, sometimes called Wolfitis or Werewolf Syndrome."

"Hypertrichosis is a congenital condition and the incidence is one in ten billion"

An example:

http://www.mymultiplesclerosis.co.uk/mis...
Reply:If you look closely enough, you can notice that we DO still have hair, only it is no longer as thick and abundant as it once was. The fact that in the passage of time (the transition between human and monkey) there may have been mutations in the genetic structure of their DNA as it passed from generation to generation, causing us to have less and less hair.

I'm not sure if we will loss all our hair, but it is possible that in the future we will loss the hair growing in our genital areas. How long this new extremity will take, I'm not sure. But this is the way I understand it. I'm not sure if this is correct. It's just a hunch, but I Hope it satisfies your question.
Reply:Good question. I don't think we will loss all our hair. We have retained hairin the face and genital area beacuse they are useful. (Secondary sexual characters). It has been reported that these genes are present in the X chromosome. Since humans have better options to protect themselves form cold than having a hair cover why waste energy. It is not going to improve the fitness either. So at some point in the evolution hair become vestigial and lost in the due course. It is an assumption and not backed with evidences.

Hair Growth?

Many questions:

The Hot Oil massage:

-When you do this, what kind of oil is it?

Olive Oil, that you use to bake?

Coconut Oil, which is normally used for your skin?

Or some kind of oil you get off of the internet that comes from another planet and costs a bazillion dollars?

- Also, how do you go about doing this?

Do you pour a cup of it into a pan until it is hot and then pur it all over your hair while rubbing it in?

Do you put a cup of it in the microwave for a minute or how long, and do the same as above?

Do you warm it up in some way or make it boiling hot?

Once its hot or warm or whatever do yu just put the Oil in your hair or do you mix it with something?

If you mix it with something, what would it be? Shampoo, conditioner, water?

There are other ways for hair growth out there too.

Such as vitamins:

I've heard of Hair, Skin %26amp; Nails:

-has anyone ever tried this before?

Did it work well with them/ you?

Hair Growth?
Unfortunately, hair grows at a steady rate.

I know it seems like there are times when hair grows faster or slower than normal or if someone uses some special potion or eats a certain type of food or massages their scalp, that it promotes growth.

Unfortunately, no.

First things first....the "oil" is only going to grease down your hair. But the massage does help to increase vascularity (blood flow) to your scalp, which is good for maintaining healthy skin tissues that surround the root.

The hair itself is composed of the root, the shaft, and the tip. Only the root of the hair is under the skin, its located in the dermal layer of our skin. This is where new hair growth occurs. The shaft is the hair that we see that pokes through the skin, it is dead. So by the time a hair (no matter how short it is) is visible on the skin, it has becomes keratinized and its dead.

What massage does, is by increasing circulation around each root, it promotes healthy scalp, to decrease dandruff and flakes, which add to excessive hair dryness or oiliness, which can make hair appear to be more thinner than it really is.

The thing with hair growth, is its regulated by a complex endocrine (hormonal) mechanisms. Hormones take weeks to months to communicate with each other, which is why hair growth is steady, it doesnt increase or decrease. There are times, especially when you are stressed out or if you are experiencing problems with your thyroid gland or if you are pregnant, menopausal, or taking birth control pills, that those things all affect your hair.

But none affect the length of it. Some stressors can cause hair to fall out. But unfortunately nothing causes hair to grow, and believe me if there was a mechanism, science would be all over it and we would have a cure for baldness.

So your hair is a product of what you have been doing to your body for the past 6 months, even up to a year. So if you smoke, drink alcohol, take recreational drugs, eat poor diet, do not exercise, and are stressed out, its going to show with your hair being brittle and dry and dull, and possibly falling out. Now on the other hand, if you take care of yourself, eat good proper diet, avoid stress, your hair is going to appear healthy because the shaft (the visible portion) is just a dead version of the root that has grown and grown and grown. So this is why drug tests can take a sample of your hair (no matter how small) and tell whether you have been taking drugs or not, because the hair tells all.

So unfortunately, there are things that cause hair to fall out, but nothing is out there as of right now that causes hair growth.
Reply:Honestly there isn't much that will help w/ hair growth aside from regular 6-8 week trims 1/4 - 1/2 inch of each time. Using good products and not over processing your hair. One thing you can add is folic acid vitamin supplements, keratin supplements and sea weed is also good for hair growth.

There are no big secrets to making your hair grow faster, everyones hair grows at approximately the same rate, 1/4 inch per month, a 1/2 in the summer months if you are lucky.

oils are more for "treating" your damaged hair, and its not that great, if you put the oil in your hair then wrap your head/hair in plastic wrap and work out a bit, or vacuum or something to bring up your body temp, it does help make your hair feel softer, just make sure to shampoo and condition real well after!

Hair removal creams?

Just wanted to ask if anyone knows if hair removal products like depilatory creams which may also include inhibitor (so as to reduce hair growth), do any harm to the skin. I know they can cause some irritation but that is not a big problem if it is only temporary. Considering the chemicals they have, I wonder if they can cause skin cancer for example. Do their chemicals penetrate through the skin and if so do they cause any harm?

Hair removal creams?
These hair removal creams do no damage to you. They disintegrate the hair follicle and leave you with smooth skin, and some times a irritation (well it is burning your hair off at the root) so you may expect that, but no these are put on the market so you DONT get cancer or any other disease..unless your allergic to it lol.
Reply:Hi, It is really important to do a test patch first. Try a more gentle cream like surga cream extra gentle for the face if you are concerned about chemical reaction. There are no long term complications associated with these creams. When you stop using any growth inhibitor the normal growth rate will return. Have you thought about laser hair removal.
Reply:Certain hair removal creams won't cause any irritation. Hair removal plus is made from natural ingredients, and not from chemicals. It can't cause any skin cancer or harm. But it will cause hair removal! i'm leaving the link at the source

Question for the ladies...?

I'm just curious, does anyone else have skin tags umm..."down there"? I have some and had a bad experience with them because this one idiot doctor I saw tried to say it was genital warts. Which I knew for several reasons could not be true. I got a second opinion, and THIS doc took a biopsy of the growths and it turned out to be just normal flesh. Skin tags. Does anyone else have these? And are MOST physicians competant enough to tell the difference between skin tags and warts?

Question for the ladies...?
Totally normal...I have two myself on my inner thigh, really close to the jackpot if you catch my drift. They aren't large and obvious, but they are there and I know it. So does my fiance. He actually pointed the second one out to me that I didn't know was there at first. It was kind of funny. There is nothing weird about having them. Some people do and some people don't. At least they aren't growing on your face. I had an Aunt with skin tags around her mouth! We are the lucky ones. You can have them removed if you wish, but seriously, they aren't hurting anyone.
Reply:yes, it is normal. not everybody has them, but there is no problem with you if you do.
Reply:I would think that a doctor should know the difference...however it doesn't seem to be! I would think the best person to see would be a dermatologist.
Reply:I have seen this on both males and females, skin tags "down there" are common.
Reply:Yes, I have a huge one at the end of my crack. (Very, Very, Embarrassing!) No, I am not bragging. I just wanted you to know that you are not the only one.
Reply:Skin tags are quite common. Especially after having children. They can be surgically removed.
Reply:Look at the site below... I guess it is pretty common, but good thing is, there are treatments for it.
Reply:i am in high school but we just went over this in sex ed and genital warts are actually very common. and the physicians are very competant. don't worry trust the pros.

Small rice shape lump near surface of pen$s, is it a callous?

This is a bit embarressing, but my concern far outweighs any shame I have.

I think my self pleasuring may have done something to my pen$s. A few months ago, I developed what looked like a small scab, or a callous on the shaft. That callous went away, but now I have a strange growth near the surface of the skin in the same spot as the callous. The growth is hard to the touch, in the shape of a grain of rice, but smaller and thinner. I once scratched at it, broke the skin, and squeezed out the small substance. It was a white, very odorous, pasty substance. Even after having squeezed out all the substance, the spot will resume growing from a small speck to a small piece of rice sized object. What do I have? How can I get rid of it?

Small rice shape lump near surface of pen$s, is it a callous?
just a pimple or it could be a cyst
Reply:sounds like it is infected and i hate to say it but you need to see the doctor
Reply:Dude, its your d#%k, get it looked at, its the only one youll have

My cat has a strange growth on her side...help!?

My cat has recently developed a strange growth on the side of her body, in the stomach region. It is on the surface of her skin (as in, it rests on the surface of her skin and doesn't appear to delve any deeper) and looks and feels like a horn; it appeared over the course of a few days and fell off, but there is a hairless patch, as well as an indentation in the skin, where it was. Her fur is black, and so was this growth. The area of her stomach near the growth is very tender and she seems to experience pain if touched there. My vet can't get her in until next week, but in the meantime, I'm worried and would like some reassurance, if possible. Does anyone know what this could possibly be?

Thanks.

My cat has a strange growth on her side...help!?
If you feel she's in pain, she should be seen asap. If your regular vet can't find time to see her and you've voiced your concern to them of this growth, then find another vet in the area who will take you sooner to have the growth looked at and to have your mind eased. If you don't want to do that, then leave a message for the vet and have him/her call you back so that you can ask him/her what they believe it might be.

Working in a vet clinic, I know that sometimes the receptionist doesn't have any idea on what is something that is serious or something that can wait. But always, if a client voices their concerns about something, we ALWAYS find a way to squeeze them in to be seen. Perhaps you need to be a bit pushier (the squeeky wheel pretty much gets the oil where I work, lol).
Reply:umm its called going to a vet so your cat dosent have to suffer with somthing that can be treatable.
Reply:I know it is a fatty pack my neighbors dog had like 6 of em. they are harmless but you should go check it out still

What is the best product to use for...?

1. Nail growth and the health of the skin around the nails. I have bit my nails for YEARS now and am FINALLY trying to stop and am having a little bit of success. However, because of the trauma they've been through they are growing really slow and are kinda weak. Any suggestions for that? Also, the skin around my nails aren't in perfect condition either, so any suggestions for that would be lovely!

2. Really soft, smooth, even toned, beautiful skin???? My skin is very dry right now and I have very light skin that doesn't look very pretty right now. I'm soon going to be wearing a dress for a special occasion and want my skin to look really good.

THANKS!

What is the best product to use for...?
for the help of nail growth- Salley Hansen Nail Growth Protein (about $6.50 a bottle at a local drugstore)

You should use it daily. It's easy to apply, wears well, promotes growth, and strengthens nails.

to soften the skin around the nail- Burt's Bees Lemon-Butter Cuticle Creme ($6.00 at a local drugstore)

Massage the cream into your cuticles and nails at least once a day.

to soften and tone skin all over- Jergens Natural Glow daily moisturizer (about $5.00 at a local drugstore)

It softens your dry skin and actually tans it at the same time. But it isn't that ugly orange-looking tan. It looks natural!!! It's amazing!

hope this helps!

well i dont know about even tones.
Reply:1 there is nail polish you can use.once you get nail pilish on it will look so pretty you wont want to bit it and mess it up or you could use nail grower nail polish

2 for your skin use lotion every day it helps trust me
Reply:ANSWER TO QUESTION 1: i would suggest getting acryllic nails to cover up the damage... and when they are finished growing out... try this product: http://www.sallyhansen.com/images/produc...

you can get it at walmart for anywhere from 3-8 dollars. spread this product on just like you would nail polish... because you have already grown your nails like i said, this will restore the vitams and natural color of the nail.

ANSWER TO QUESTION 2: try exfoliating with a SUGAR scrub. its better than a SALT scrub because it is less brittle and harsh on the skin, try this product (sugar scrubs) (bodytopia.net)... this will even out your skin tone as well as restoring the moisture back into your skin... and if you are concerned with the color of your skin, try a tinted moisturizer like this: http://i.ivillage.com/BS/products_shoppi...

this can be purchased at any major beauty supply stores for about 15-25 dollars (GUESSTIMATING.)

so good luck and feel GREAT on that special occasion !
Reply:calcium tablets could help speed up your nail growth. as for skin around the nails, just use a light cream. hmm for skin, you could get a facial, make some home-made masks at home, or buy some facial creams. i have a fabulous almond milk mask that works quite well, exfoliating and brightening my skin. if you want your skin to look tanner, clinique makes a very nice bronzing powder, very natural looking %26amp; light. good luck :)
Reply:I know that prenatal vitamins have given me a totally healthy set of nail and hair and my skin is unusually clear. I don't even wear makeup as much anymore. Just the other day, I went to get my nails done and for the first time, ever, I just got a manicure on my own natural nails. Even the girls at the nail shop were impressed with the condition of my nails. Prenatal vitamins are the ticket, but don't be cheap, get the good stuff, I have a doctor's prescription for mine and they are great. I have tried over-the-counter and they do not work as well and make my tummy hurt.
Reply:i cant answer ur first question - as i dont have any idea about nail related products, but for the second question, i will suggest u to use DOVE products....they will really change ur skin, as i was in same prob like u - my skin was really dry and rough. it totally changed after i started using dove - soap, moisturiser and face cream.
Reply:Ok for question number 1, as a nail biting vetren who just nails just started growing, and haven't been bitten in almost 3 months now, I recomend Sally's Beauty supplies, Hard As Nails. Its the only thing that makes my nails hard and really works. Here's the site of the products http://www.sallybeauty.com/on/demandware...

and you can also find cutical lotions and fixers on that site too.

For the second question, you should make sure the lotion doesn't have any kind of alcohal stuff in it. This is usually found in lotions with fragrence. So go with a simple lotion brand like Jergen's or Sauve. They are cheap, but they will work better..Good luck:)
Reply:1st your nails...let the skin heal on it's own, DO NOT CHEW!! Try calcium and vitamin E supplements, because healthy nails start from the inside out. Prenantal vitamins(available over the counter for very low cost) are excellent. They will help your skin also. For your skin, use mild soap, and do not scrub, this cause irritation and microscopic damage to your skin that will make your skin look uneven. Also taking too many showers will cause your skin to dry out. If it is very dry a light moisturizer once a day(before you go to bed) will help, but shower in the morning, to prevent pimples. For prevention, always wear a sunblock on skin exposed to sunlight, even in the winter. UV rays are very harmful to your skin and can cause your skin to look unpleasant over time! Avoid harsh chemicals on your skin! And what you eat also affects what your skin and nails look like, your hair too!

Genetic mapping?

i have been searching the enternet for reference map for the genetic make-up of the human. i have found many but none had what i was looking for. i need not only the location of the genes, but what they do, like which effect skin, hair(including color, texture, and growth), eyes ect. can anyone out there help?

thanks ahead of time.

Genetic mapping?
Genes hold all of our hereditary information, and provide the "genetic code" that allows our bodies to develop, grow, and function. Genes can play a role in our risk to develop certain disorders. Our environment affects how our genes function. Genes are made up of DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid.) DNA is the genetic alphabet. We inherit half of our genetic information from our mother, and half from our father. Our genes are packaged in structures called chromosomes. Genes lined up on chromosomes can be thought of like beads lined up on a string. Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes in almost every cell of their body. These pairs are called homologous chromosomes.

A genetic map is a map based on the frequencies of recombination between markers during crossover of homologous chromosomes. Here is a nice website on the subject http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/About/primer...

Is coconut oil is good for the face?

i heard coconut oil does wonders for the face. but i want to get two things clarified before using it:

a)is it okay to use on oily skin

b) will it lead to growth to facial hair( i don't want a hairy face)

Is coconut oil is good for the face?
My mom uses it all the time, she loves it! I personally havn't used it yet because I have acne, but she says it'll help it. I'm just afraid to try anything new before holidays. It makes her skin look great, I'm sure it'd be okay for oily skin. A little goes a LOOONG ways with coconut oil. I'd try it if I were you. :)
Reply:No!! It drys it out! Try Clean %26amp; Clear.. isa a facial scrub to GET RID of oily skin!! ( and it doesnt grow hair either LOL! )
Reply:nooooooo crazy do want pimples
Reply:no it isn't. nbut instead, it'll just make your skin darker.

but i've heard it's good for your hair. it works like a salon hot oil.
Reply:No it won't make your hair grow, otherwise bald men would be slathering it all over their head instead of buying Rogaine for $50 a bottle.

I wouldn't put any oil on your face, especially if you have oily skin. Your face is already producing enough oil on it's own.
Reply:not sure

but a banana skin will make your face smooth
Reply:yea sure i used it once or twice its great but leaves ur skin a bit oily. Just dont use too much. Forget those ppl who say dont do it they dont know its worth man, just try a little of it but try not to get into the sun too much wen u do that- put it on at night. Wont cause ur hair o grow just give u smoother skin, but it may darken ur hair though.
Reply:yeah i heard it's very good for the skin. I already have a jar of organic coconut oil. Get organic coconut oil because well organic is way better. I don't use it on my skin, I take it internally. And I heard it won't cloggg your pores. SO, try it. It'll smooth your skin
Reply:yes it is good for face.. it actually kills the bacteria that causes pimples.. and no, it won't lead to facial hair growth..

try it for a couple of nights and see how it will work for you.

Is there any way to make my hair grow faster?

I, being the idiot I am, decided my bangs were too long and I'd take care of them myself. I have a concert on Tuesday next week and I really don't like how my hair now looks. Since, like fingernails, hair is made of keratin, would speeding up keratin production (somehow, but all I know about keratin is that it's dead skin cells) make for faster hair growth? Thanks in advance.

How do you deal with PCOS?

I am a 19yr old female and I was told I had PCOS when I was 17.

I was put on the pill as my testostarone was way too high, I was also told that I was highly insulin resistant!

The pill has cleared my skin up and the unwanted hair growth yet my periods are still irregular and I have gained 40kgs in the last 3yrs.

How do I loose weight, I have tried everthing?

How do you deal with PCOS?
PCOS refers to multiple cysts on the ovaries and a host of other

problems that go along with them, including anovulation (lack of

ovulation) and menstrual abnormalities, hirsutism (facial hair), male pattern baldness, acne, and often obesity. Such women may also have varying degrees of insulin resistance and an increased incidence of Type II diabetes, unfavorable lipid patterns (usually high triglycerides), and a low bone density.

Laboratory tests often show higher than normal circulating androgens, especially testosterone.

PCOS occurs when a woman doesn't ovulate, which causes a disruption in the normal, cyclical interrelationship among her hormones, brain and ovaries. Normally, the hypothalamus, a regulatory center in the brain, monitors the hormone output of the ovaries and synchronizes the normal menstrual cycle. When monthly bleeding ends, the hypothalamus secretes gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), which stimulates the pituitary gland in the brain to release follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). These hormones direct an ovary to start making estrogen (mostly estradiol), and stimulate the maturation of eggs in about 120 follicles.

The first follicle that ovulates, releasing its egg into the fallopian tube for a journey to the uterus, quickly changes into the corpus luteum, which is a factory for making progesterone, and raises

progesterone's concentrations to 200 to 300 times higher than that of estradiol. This huge surge of progesterone simultaneously puts the uterine lining in its secretory or ripening phase, and turns off further ovulation by either ovary.

If fertilization does not occur, the ovary stops its elevated production of both estrogen and progesterone. The sudden fall in the concentrations of these hormones causes shedding of the blood-rich uterine lining and bleeding (menstruation). Then, in response to low hormone levels, there is a rise in GnRH and the cycle starts all over again.

But what happens to this cycle if, for some reason, ovulation is

unsuccessful? For example, if the follicle migrates to the outside of the ovary, but does not "pop" the egg and release it, the follicle

becomes a cyst, and the normal progesterone surge does not occur. The lack of progesterone is detected by the hypothalamus, which continues to try to stimulate the ovary by increasing its production of GnRH, which increases the pituitary production of FSH and LH. This stimulates the ovary to make more estrogen and androgens, which stimulates more follicles toward ovulation. If these additional follicles are also unable to produce a matured ovum or make progesterone, the menstrual cycle is dominated by increased estrogen and androgen production without progesterone. This is the fundamental abnormality that creates PCOS.

****An alternative treatment for ovarian cysts is natural progesterone. ****

The signaling mechanism that shuts off ovulation in one ovary each cycle is the production of progesterone in the other . If sufficient natural progesterone is supplemented prior to ovulation, LH levels are inhibited and both ovaries think the other one has ovulated, so regular ovulation does not occur. (This is the same effect as contraceptive pills.) Similarly, the high estriol and progesterone levels throughout pregnancy successfully inhibit ovarian activity for nine months. Therefore, adding natural progesterone from day 10 to day 26 of the cycle suppresses LH and it’s luteinizing effects.

Thus the ovarian cyst will not be stimulated and, in the passage of one or two such monthly cycles, will very likely shrink and disappear without further treatment.
Reply:I also have PCOS with insulin resistance. It's most likely your high levels of insulin that are making you gain weight. Your best bet is to go on a diet such as the Zone diet or South Beach diet - anything that is low sugar. You really want to make that type of diet lifelong since insulin resistance can turn into Type II Diabetes later in life.
Reply:I have P.C.O.S.

My husband and I are trying desperatly to have a child, for 2 years now...it's hard.

My hag doctor put me on the pill, I stopped taking it because, um HELLO, WE ARE TRYING TO GET FRIGGIN PREGNANT, yea, lady, put me on birth control! THANKS!

I was taking 500 mg. of Metformin (glucophage) daily and that helped with some of the symptoms like weight gain (l lost 30 pounds in 2 months!) but I didn't get pregnant either...

PCOS is caused by inbalances of horomones in your body. Simple version... A woman natrually produces testosterone. Insulin works with the fat cells to convert it into estrogen.

With your insulin not working properly, your body is pumping out too much testosterone, producing too much estrogen. Because of the elivated levels of testosterone, your body thinks you need more fat cells to convert it, so your body hangs on to all that it can, causing you to gain weight even when you diet. Controlling your insulin via pills (not "the pill") is your best bet I think (don't stop taking the pill though until you discuss it with your doctor) This may be a good thing or a bad thing. The pills (glucophage, or metformin) are for diabetic people, and the meds can either prevent you from developing diabeties or cause it...talk to your doctor, and do some research on PCOS and diabeties, the more you know, the better, you will be in the know when it comes to your treatment options. Good luck hon.
Reply:I also have PCOS i was diagnosed when i was 13 I'm now 21 almost 22. the pill that i am on is Othro-tri cyclen I seem to get a regular periods but when my doctor switched me to a all Progesterone pill i never go one.

It is very hard to lose weight with pcos, doctors have recommend to me to go on a diabetic diet and exercise with weights, swimming, walking, cycling and other activity's like that.
Reply:MOST IMPORTANT IS WEIGHT REDUCTION.

Can fasting be harmful if Im taking Growth Hormones?

Im currently taking testosterone for medical reasons. Its the kind you rub into your skin. Can fasting hurt me if Im doing the growth hormone treatment at the same time?

Can fasting be harmful if Im taking Growth Hormones?
Never fast without first getting advice from your doctor.
Reply:How long do you intend to fast??? If you are fasting for a day it won't hurt you.
Reply:I'm going to guess that you are fasting, or, need to fast, due to an upcoming cholesterol blood test.

Ideally, you should fast for 12 - 14 hours, no shorter, no longer.

Keep using your med as needed, but, remember, no food, fluid, smoking, tic tacs, gum, etc while you fast.

Also, be sure to have a doctor closely monitor your hormone treatment, misuse can cause a decrease in sperm production and a decrease in penile/testicular size. Not for all, just for those misusing the hormone.

Please help my dog as a growth should i worry?

my dog as a growth on his back legon top of his skin just near his joint it is not attached to anything it looks sore but it is not botherng him hes just turned 3 please help me is there reason for me to worry

Please help my dog as a growth should i worry?
Sometimes growths need to be removed because the get sore from getting bumped or lain on. Watch it closely, if it gets bigger you should have it removed. The bigger they are the more costly to you to remove. The only way to know if it is a bad lump is to have a needle aspirate done then if the labs says to remove it you will have to have it removed. If money is a concern just go ahead and have it removed and send it in for a Biopsy. Shop around because Vets vary greatly in price.
Reply:Take him to the vet asap.
Reply:Cough up the $45 and take him to the vet for an exam.
Reply:Well, it is not an emergency situation, but it certainly needs to be checked out by a vet..So, it would be the best to call Monday and make an appointment.
Reply:Does it feel kind of like a cyst? If so, then it is nothing to worry about. Some dogs are prone to have "Zit-like" cysts sometimes. Some of them can be expressed but others are too hard and should be left alone. Umless it bothers your dog, it isn't anything to worry about.
Reply:Yes you should take the dog to the vet.

How to know Kitten is getting fat?

My kitten is 3 months. Whenever I pick him up or pet him, I notice that I can feel his skin moving around more. When he was 2 months I didn't notice his skin moving around. He doesn't look fat, but he does seem to have more skin. Maybe it's just natural growth. I feed him the recommended amount of babycat food and he gets 2 or 3 treat pits a day. He's an indoor cat and is always crazy and active.

How to know Kitten is getting fat?
As long as you are feeding him the recommended amount of food and he is active, you don't need to worry. He is growing right now.

After about 6 months old, their growth slows down quite a bit. Then, you should be able to feel his ribs when you pet him gently. If you can't feel his ribs, he is too fat. Right now, if you try to limit his food too much, you would be depriving him of the nutrients and calories that he needs to grow.
Reply:Don't worry my cat is sort of under weight i think but it is probably natural it happened to my 4 month old kitten and my friends kitten.
Reply:Any time you notice a significant difference in your cat's body you should ask your vet. It could be a sign of something serious.

I Science Diet Growth ok for my 5 year old Chihuahua?

I have a 5 year old long haired chihuahua. We recently got a new long haired chihuahua and are feeding her Science Diet Growth. My 5 year old will eat nothing but her food. We do not have a regular feeding schedule. The food stays out all the time. They do not over eat but my 5 year old is gotten really fat. He has been eating it for about 6 months now. He has also always has skin problems but sence he has been eating the growth food, he hasnt had any problems. Is it ok if he continues eating to Science Diet growth until it is time for the baby to switch to Maintence formula (about 5-6 more months).

I Science Diet Growth ok for my 5 year old Chihuahua?
Food for puppies tend to be a LOT higher in calories than food for older dogs, since puppies have so much growing to do. The problem is that you're going to have one overweight chihuahua by the time the puppy is ready to switch over, since he is getting a lot more calories than he actually needs. This might cause long term damage, like diabetes, or even joint problems because of the extra weight. Not to mention that when you switch him to the original food, he might have to eat more of it to keep his calorie in-take the same (as his body would have adapted to the higher calorie food).

Either start making him exercise more, so he'll burn more calories, or keep him away from the puppy chow. It's okay on short-term, but if you're talking months, it's a bad idea for his health.

Also, I love long hair chis! They're so much cuter than their short-hair bretheren.
Reply:If the younger one is at least 5 months, put them both on the Adult formula. Chi's are pretty well done growing by then!!! In 6 more months, the older is going to just get fatter, thus shortening it's life span.
Reply:Sounds like your other dog had skin problems because he was allergic to something in his food.

Here is an article regarding dog food and their quality

http://www.asuperiorgsd.com/dog.food.htm...
Reply:There is a lot more fat and protien in the growth formula, weight gain can cause quite serious problems in dogs when they get older e.g. joint problems, mabye it is a good idea to have a schedule to ensure they eat whats best for them. I find that dogs which don't like hills will eat eukanuba as it has more chicken. Make sure you give your dog plenty of exercise and feed a small dog formula or a light formula.
Reply:your 5-yearold should be eating the adult Science Diet (their "maintenence" formula). he is getting fat because puppy diets have tons of extra calories. you should try to work out a feeding schedule and seperate them during their meals so you can feed them their different diets. your 5-yearold will only continue to gain weight, and if you think its hard to seperate their food now, wait till you're trying to feed one of them a weight loss formula that probably tastes like cardboard :)
Reply:absolutely not....start her on adult food or senior food...there are alot of proteins in the puppy food that aren't good for your adult dog. to get rid of the problem with your adult eating the puppies food...put the puppy in a bathroom or bedroom and feed her in there...only feed the dogs twice daily...and dont leave the food out all day...they will GET FAT...feed your adult dog her dog food ONLY. .. if she doesnt eat, dont worry....she will eat when she is hungry enough. she ate the food before she can do it again. She is playing with your head and she is winning. Keep doing this routine until she eats her food and the puppy is swtiched over to adult food. Goodluck!!!

if it is dimples is more likely to be cellulite - which is a build up of toxins. So detox!

Anyone know what medical condition this is?

I have only ever seen two people (both male, in their 50s) with this skin condition. They appeared to have marble sized growths all over their body, particuarly face, neck and arms. but generally everywhere. I feel quite sorry for them. One worked at a fruit market, and the other goes to my gym. I know its probably not contagious, otherwise theyd probably not be permited to be placed in these situations where the condition could be contracted by others. However, I have no idea what this condition is, and I'd like to know. Anyone have any clues?

Anyone know what medical condition this is?
I know (have seen) the condition you are speaking of. A man who belongs to our benevolent association has this condition. They do appear to be like marbles under the skin with no difference in color than normal skin. Let me look a little and see if I can get an answer for you.

The condition is a form of Lipoma. This is characterized by one to many benign, fatty tumors found in the subcutenous layer just below the skin.

Depo Provera, is this a good method?

I currently use "the patch" Ortho Evra, and like it, but I am considering a switch, will I experience negative side effects? ie..gain a lot of weight, hair growth or loss, or even skin problems? are these things common?

Depo Provera, is this a good method?
I try to persuade women and girls not to use the depo shot b/c of how badly it affected me and many other women. It's almost a slow-acting poison, there's so many side effects. Your doctor won't be completely honest w/ you about the side effects because mine wasn't. Many women gain A LOT of weight in a short period of time, hair loss, loss of sex drive, muscle aches, headaches, and sometimes even depression. If your happy where you are than stick with it..you won't regret it like I do!
Reply:if you mention depo-provera is because some friend talk to you about it. just tell your doctor about your side effects and ask him if he has another alternative for the previous one. he is the only one who knows you.
Reply:I used Depo Provera in the past and had good luck with it and very little side effects. It was nice getting a shot that lasted for 3 months. Have you ever thought about the norplant, it last for 5 years? It depends on your age and if you have kids or not as to if you would be interested or not.

----->HEY U...what STIMULATES hair growth...?<-----?

Thanks...I am an ethnic female and wish to know what products you have personal experience with and know for a fact will stimulate hair growth. My hair is long but seems thin and I know it's because of breakage and shedding. As a child I had thick "pretty" hair and it's still in good shape but I want to stimulate the growth in areas where my hair has thinned...ie...the top of my head and sides of my head as well. I want to point out that growing hair isn't the problem it's to my mid back and grows like water. My concern is that basicaly due to years of wearing tight buns my hair has thinned out in the front and on the top. What will help this hair come back in? Also when a whole hair folicle shedds and you can see the white root at the tip of the follicle... that hair will come back in ...right? Ultimately my hair seems thin although it is thick...what stimulates growth. Peppermint shampoo, organic root stimulator irritated my skin when used as directed. What else is out there?

-----%26gt;HEY U...what STIMULATES hair growth...?%26lt;-----?
The hair loss may be caused by an underactive thyroid gland. The thyroid hormones are made from iodine and the amino acid, tyrosine. These hormones regulate metabolism in every single cell and your doctor can do a simple basal body temperature test to find out if this is your problem. You might also want to pay a visit to your fishmonger because other natural sources of iodine include clams, lobsters, oysters and sardines.

Regular exercise will also stimulate thyroid gland secretions and increase the sensitivity of your body’s tissues, including your hair follicles, to the thyroid hormones.

Reply:Message your scalp and hair line and temple areas with the balls of your fingers with a hair dressing that contains natural herbs, vitamins and minerals. this will help the blood to circulate, which stimulates the hair follicles which promotes hair growth.
Reply:I have friends (and my daughter), none of whom were pregnant, but who took over the counter pre-natal vitamins. They really do help it grow! My daughter had cut her hair off to about an inch short all over and wanted it to grow back fast after her style grew out. That was two years ago. Her hair now is well below her shoulders. My co-worker's hair would stop growing once it reached a certain length - the vitamins helped it continue to grow at the same rate as it did when it was shorter.

Can't hurt - and would be good for you!

Can someone from the medical community Email me please!?

I have several questions regarding cancer. Does a cyst or a swollen lymph node mean cancer? Such as does one experience fever, etc. or what symptoms are there? Does everyone who has cancer drop weight suddenly or do they gain weight? Does cancer affect the libido or ability to have children? If there is no mole or growth apparent on the outer skin, but there was a lump or nodule to the touch, that was pliable not hard, is this Melanoma Cancer? When the cancer has spread does the lump, or tumor dissapear or does the skin change in appearance for example sag or dimple or look as there is tissue deplition?

Can someone from the medical community Email me please!?
I answered your other question. Your husband needs to have a doctor lay eyes and hands on him to figure out what his lump is/was. NOBODY on this forum can do what a live MD in person can do.

There are hundreds of different cancers, each with different symptoms and courses. There are also a bunch of things that your husband could have that are NOT malignant.

I sent you an email.

Melanoma usually starts on the skin, but a good friend of mine just lost his wife to melanoma that was first found in her liver. Never found a skin lesion.

Cancers are usually hard. Things that are soft are less likely to be malignant.

Take him to a doctor or clinic.
Reply:cyst or swollen lymph node mean cancer? NO

Usually don't have fever with cancer.

Not everyone who has cancer loses weight. Some don't lose or gain.

Melanoma is a skin cancer. Develops on the outside of the skin.

The skin develops black or brown irregular areas that sometimes scab over but never completely heal.
Reply:I'm a nurse. It's hard for me to comment without viewing it for myself, I will do my best to answer some of your questions. First cancer cells exist in all of our bodies, it's when they get out of whack that they can become fatal. Second a mole only becomes a problem when it starts to change colors or even fall off. People usually have weight loss, but that's with chemotherapy. In addition, a biopsy has to be taken in order to determine which type of cancer it is or if it's cancerous at all. A person can simply have a growth and it's only a piece of tissue in which the doctor removes with no other problems. Seeing the doctor is the very best way to find out without worrying yourself. Relax everything is going to be OK. I have a movie for you to watch, I'm a Christian. I'll pray for you and your family, it can't hurt for you to do the same. There are still people who care in this world, like you. There's nothing wrong with needing questions answered that's what this is for. All the best. On the inside of my left middle finger on the bottom joint I got a growth one time...?

It kept getting bigger and harder until it was almost visable through the skin from a descent distance. It never caused any pain or discomfort though and I tried moving it and cracking it but nothing happened, so I just ignored it. Then one day I caught a baseball thrown very hard barehanded with that hand. 1 hour later I was sitting down when I noticed the growth or whatever was gone. Any idea what it may have been and the chances of any reaccuring growths?

On the inside of my left middle finger on the bottom joint I got a growth one time...?
oh it might be just a sebaceous cyst... or a tendon cyst...

the reccurrence is possible. because these might be encapsulated, and the impact might have crushed the covering and released the fluid inside. after seeral weeks it will grow back. its not dangerous though.

but a minor surgery can eliminate cyst... dont worry its not painful.

How do I get info on this week's ABC "Medical Mysteries"?

ABC's "Medical Mysteries" regular program aired on 08/09/06 and featured a rare physical affliction experienced by many thousands of people but is widely disputed by the medical community. It has a common symptom of itchy feelings underneath the skin and the feeling of something "crawling" underneath the skin. People who experience this anomaly claim that there is a fiberous growth that forms underneath the skin and is quite disturbing. In fact, some of the people claiming this affliction have resorted in amputating an arm or leg in order to be relieved of the suffering. The medical community claims that this "disorder" is merely the result of mass hypochondria and is totally psycological in nature. ABC has brought this problem out in the open but I can't seem to find any reference to it when I've gone to their massive ABC.com - HELP!

Can someone test out two homemade wax recieps PLEASE! THANKS!?

I will give you two different recipes adn please try them both and tell me which one works the best and takes out hairu the best. Thankyou! ( reciepes are below)

HAIR REMOVER - BODY SUGARING Juice of 1/2 a lemon

1 cup sugar

1/4 cup honey

cornstarch

clean cloth cotton strips

wooden stick or spreader

Dust the area to be waxed, with cornstarch. Combine the first three ingredients in a clean glass bowl, and microwave for two minutes. Stop and stir your sugar mixture every 20-30 seconds. Let it cool to a comfortable warmth, and, using a wooden stick, spread a very thin layer onto your clean skin. Immediately cover the mixture with a strip of cotton fabric. Briskly stroke the strip several times in the direction of the hair growth, and then, pull the skin taut, and quickly rip away the cotton strip, against the direction of hair growth. As you proceed, you may need to reheat your sugar mixture in the microwave to keep it warm. Do not boil it or overheat as you could easily burn

yes they work very well

Hair growth inhibitor?

What do you use on your skin after waxing? Do you use any hair growth inhibitor?

Hair growth inhibitor?
My saliva works well
Reply:Waxing is silly but if you have to do it use a moisturiser.

waxing pulls the hair folicals, this means there is nothing left to grow until the root reestablishes its self.
Reply:You don't need to use anything other than moisturiser, the hairs have already been pulled out.
Reply:no
Reply:I epilate, but the idea is the same - to get rid of those nasty hairs for as long as possible.

To help with this I use either Jergens Naturally Smooth or Aveeno Positively Smooth shave minimizing lotions daily. Even if I go for weeks between epilating, any regrowth is so much finer that it is hardly noticeable. I'm happy with the results of both lotions, so I buy whatever is on sale when I need some more. Both are good moisturizers, and will leave your legs looking and feeling great.
Reply:No... I don't believe they work to be honest. And the expensive ones with loads of active ingredients cannot be good for your skin!

Does circumcision allow more growth of the penis?

In comparison to those non-circumcised, is it possible that those without circumcision does not have more potential of full growth because there is an overlap of skin covering the head of the penis?

Its an assumption because the skin is obstructing the penis, thus not allowing it to grow out.

Does circumcision allow more growth of the penis?
THE FIRST CIRCUMCISION WAS DONE BY ABRAHAM AS A BLOOD COVENANT WITH GOD. THE FORESKIN WAS CONSIDERED SOMETHING OF NO VALUE. IT IS OFTEN SAID THAT A PENIS WHICH HAS BEEN CIRCUMCISED IS LONGER. PEOPLE WHO HAVE THIS DONE DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH INFECTIONS AND CLEANLINESS THAT UNCIRCUMCISED MEN HAVE.
Reply:The skin is not an obstruction, it grows along with the penis.

Jackie S: I'm uncut, and in my 34 years i've never had an infection or a hygiene issue. The connection between hygiene and circumcision is false, it's just as easy to clean an uncut penis as the skin moves back.

Any uncut man who has had a penile hygiene issue was probably just an unclean kind of person anyway, and he would have been just as unclean even if he had been cut.
Reply:Sorry, I don't there's anything to that. The skin doesn't really block the penis's growth at all. It's just loose skin over the head of the penis.
Reply:No, there are two reasons for circumcision that I know. One is for religious beliefs (Jewish faith). Two is that it makes hygiene easier. It is harder to keep the penis clean with the extra skin there. It doesn't have to do with growth or size. If it did all men would choose to do it and all women would want them to do so.

No. The skin slides back; it's not firmly attached to the head. So it's not obstructing the penis.

It's all based on genes.

In fact, a risk of circumcision is that you can end up with a restricted size when erect, if too much skin is removed. The way that works is because a penis needs more skin to get bigger during an erection. The following two links explain that in more detail; one from a pediatrician and the other from an urologist:

http://drgreene.org/body.cfm?id=21%26amp;actio...

http://www.altermd.com/Penis%20and%20Scr...

That's only one of the risks (others are in the link below). Trust me, if circumcision allowed the penis to grow bigger, most guys would be circumcised; we'd know from thousands of years. (and look around how many guys are concerned about their size, haha) In fact, circumcision has become less popular (the USA is the last developed nation doing it without medical/religious need and even our rates have fallen to as low as 14% in some states compared to being around 90% in the 60s and 70s).

Reply:Hi,

Circumcision is the surgical removal of the sleeve of skin and mucosal tissue that normally covers the glans (head) of the penis. This double layer, sometimes called the prepuce, is more commonly known as the foreskin.

The foreskin serves three functions: protective, sensory, and sexual. In most cases, the foreskin is still fused to the glans at birth and will separate over a variable period of time over the first few years. During the diaper period, the foreskin protects against abrasion from diapers and faeces. Throughout life, the foreskin keeps the glans soft and moist and protects it from trauma and injury. Parts of the foreskin, such as the mucosa (inner foreskin) and frenulum, are particularly sensitive and contribute to sexual pleasure. Specialised nerve endings enhance sexual pleasure and control. The inner foreskin (mucosa) is the skin directly against the glans. The foreskin provides ample loose skin for the penis to occupy when erect. It is a movable skin sheath for the penis during intercourse, reducing chafing and the need for artificial lubricants, and allowing the glans and foreskin to naturally stimulate each other.

Possible benefits of circumcision include:

Circumcision prevents infection and inflammation of the foreskin. And it may decrease the risk of penile cancer.

It might play a role in reducing the risk of sexually transmitted diseases. Practicing safe sex, however, is a far more important factor in preventing these diseases than whether a man is circumcised.

Infants who are not circumcised may be more likely to develop urinary tract infections. These infections early in life may lead to kidney problems later in life. Infants who have kidney or bladder abnormalities are at higher risk of urinary tract infections, so circumcision may be advised for these babies.

In rare circumstances problems can occur with the uncircumcised penis that may require circumcision at an older age. These problems include inflammation of the foreskin or adherence of the foreskin to the tip of the penis. Circumcision during infancy eliminates the possible need for the procedure at an older age.

Circumcision makes it easy to keep the end of the penis clean. However, the shedding skin cells that naturally accumulate on the glans of an uncircumcised boy are not harmful. Do not try to force the foreskin back to clean the penis of an infant or young boy. Washing externally with mild soap and water is all that is necessary.
Reply:The truth is that your body needs that skin to fully grow. When it's cut off the length of the skin is reduced and may hinder the length being that the room allowed for growth has been taken away.

It was put there for a reason getting it cut off is just a custom
Reply:False assumption; the foreskin moves back out of the way.
Reply:no i can tell you for a fact that it has nothing what so ever to do with it. the fore skin does not stop growth in any way.
Reply:no.what you got is what you got

some are lucky some are not.
Reply:The foreskin is not simply a useless piece of skin, to be disposed of without careful thought. It forms the covering of the head (glans) of the penis in men and the clitoris in women. It is very rich in nerves responsible for touch and the movement of the foreskin backwards and forwards over the glans provides some of the pleasurable sensation experienced during sex.

Adult males that were circumcised as infants do not usually report sexual problems linked with their circumcision, perhaps because they have never experienced sexual sensation with a foreskin. However, men circumcised as sexually active adults quite frequently complain of sexual problems arising from either reduced or altered penile sensation

Happily, complications of circumcision are relatively rare, although they may be under-reported following religious or cultural circumcision. For this reason, figures on the rate of complications may not be reliable. Complications include:

reduction in penile sensation (an almost universal experience)

bleeding

damage to the urethra (urine tube in the penis)

amputation of the glans (rare)

infection in the blood or septicaemia (rare).

Very few absolute medical reasons exist for circumcision, and no reasons exist to justify routine circumcision of infants outside areas with a high rate of HIV infection. Far too many circumcisions are performed without good reason in Europe and the USA. The best advice is 'if it isn't absolutely necessary, don't circumcise'.

Being circumcised or not bears no relation to the size of one's penis.
Reply:No, there is no comparison of cut vs uncut in relation to penis size
Reply:No that is not the case your penis will grow to it's determined size during puberty and will not grow any more after that.
Reply:It doesn't matter growth wise! Just health wise! it is much healthier for both partner's
Reply:If anything, it restricts the growth of the penis because there is not as much skin to grow into.
Reply:Not true at all. The skin is part of the penis...it doesn't close it over, doesn't obstruct the head or anything. Actually being circumcised can restrict things, because if they remove too much skin (particularly when done to babies) it can cause problems when they grow and get erections because it pulls too tight.
Reply:It hasn't been truly proven, but it is believed that without the foreskin the glans penis (head) of your dick will be able to grow out a bit more.

Can I do this? ????? Please answer and if you are willing t try for me then plz because i nvr tried this.?

okay . I want to try body sugaring and so can you leave it on your skin for a while till it hardens on your skin and cools and then take it off with nopain? Is thsi true , can some very kind person out there try it for me with the way i say . like letting the paste harden then take it off. Explain in detail please, like if it hurts more that way or just ripping it off like normal/? and stuff please. Its just that Im kinda scared of waxing but shaving leaves dots and stuff and I want to try waxing. here is the recipe. please god bless

HAIR REMOVER - BODY SUGARING Juice of 1/2 a lemon

Can I do this? ????? Please answer and if you are willing t try for me then plz because i nvr tried this.?
sure
Reply:I've never tried it myself, but I have heard of people doing this sucessfully. GIve it a test shot on a part of your skin that won't show to see how your skin reacts. I would say not to let it cool all the way. Smooth it on in the direction your hair grows, put the strip on and smooth that down gently again the way your hair grows, then with one hand hold your skin taught so it would be pulled up with the strip and quickly pull the stip in the opposite direction of hair growth. ** Make sure you don't pull straight up. That will hurt. Pull at an angle. An angle which looks like you're almost folding the strip in half when you rip it off if that makes sense. I wax at home with Sally Hansen microwave wax (about $9 at the drugstore), and its surprsingly painless and really easy to use if you ever decide to give waxing a shot. Its got a formula which grabs the hair but doesn't pull your skin up with it. Good luck with your sugaring, and remember to keep some some baby oil handy incase your hands start to get sticky.

Pre natal vitamins?

is it true that women use these when they're not pregnant for healthy skin and healthy hair/nail growth? also, can these be used with birth control pills if NOT pregnant?

Pre natal vitamins?
I don't think there's any risk of harm involved--and it does make sense that it would help the bones and teeth (extra calcium). It may additionally help the hair and nails. Vitamins do not disagree with birth control pills--at least not as of last reading. Prenatal vitamins usually contain extra iron, as well, so you may need to worry about constipation--but just taking a stool softener, or even drinking extra water will help with that.
Reply:Yes women, do take them when there not pregnant. My Sister in-law was taking them, when she found out she was pregnant, and after loosing the baby, she still took them, and she says, her nails are stronger, her hair is shinier, and much thicker. Im not sure about taking them with birth control, pills, ask your doctor, but if not, there are other vitamins you can take that have the same effect.

I have a friend that can not lose weight!?

I have a friend that is probably 40 lbs overweight. She walks at a brisk pace for 45 minutes 5 days a week. She is not an overeater and in general eats healthy, whole foods. I am 100% convinced that she is not a "closet eater".

Despite making good food choices and excercising, she can't lose weight. In fact, the scale continues to move upwards. She is pear shaped, carrying all of her weight in her hips/thighs/****. She doesn't carry fat in her midsection, has perfectly clear skin, and no unusual hair growth. So, I don't suspect PCOS.

I have encouraged her to keep a food and excercise journal and schedule an appt with an endocrinologist because her PCP has done no workup and shows little concern.

What tests should be done to indicate if their is a metabolic disorder going on? I'm thinking cortisol, estrogens, androgens, etc.

Help... my friend is becoming very depressed over this!!

I have a friend that can not lose weight!?
Few things;

1. Definately have the thyroid checked, agree with an endocrinologist

2. consider a personal trainer, maybe the type of exercise needs to be changed

3. Look at the pattern of eating, skipping meals and eating one big meal?

4. Look at the calories on a calorie counting program such as fitday. Even though the foods are "healthy" there could be hidden fat calories or even the amounts eaten may be more than needed.
Reply:She needs to contact her physcian and have blood work done. Possible low thyroid function She needs to insist on answers from doctor. Medication is available for low/no thyroid function.

Does anyone know if taking too many Benadryl causes long term negative side effects?

I have been experiencing skin changes, hair loss, hair growth on body, extremely dry mouth (no saliva) and severe pressure in my sinus, as well as inability to move bowels. Any ideas if this could be from the benadryl? any clue how to check? I've had extensive bloodwork taken and all is fine.

Does anyone know if taking too many Benadryl causes long term negative side effects?
are you on any other medications? Going through hormonal changes? Eating differently? All of those factors could influence what you are describing, especially the hair loss/hair growth thing. Sounds like you are malnourished in some way. How much Benadryl are you taking? I don't think that taking it in the past can cause these side-effects. I've take A LOT of it before (stuck in the jungle with MOSQUITOES!)... and I overtook it in order to sleep sometimes, like I'd take 3-4 every 6 hours or something for a summer and I never experienced anything like this, nor have I heard of anything like this.
Reply:I asked my doctor the same question and he said there are no known side effects to taking anti-histamines (like Benadryl), except drowsiness.

Does anyone know how to get rid of tit warts?

They are those little growths that come up on your skin as you age and they are both an eyesore and a nusance. I know that a dermatologist can burn them off, but I was wondering if anyone knew some sort of home remedy for getting rid of them and keeping them gone.

Does anyone know how to get rid of tit warts?
Yes it can be possible with YOGA excercise and change in your eating habits, it will not cure it temporarily but will also remove it from roots and they will not come up in future life
Reply:They are called skin tags, I've had them also, I used one of those freeze solution wart removers. Read the directions it's not painful, just a little cold.
Reply:I have NEVER in my whole 28 years of life, heard the term "Tit warts" that's hilarious!
Reply:they are skin tags and they are not warts. have a doctor remove them

Is it time to put my dog to sleep?

My family has a 14 year old Yorkshire Terrior. He is extremely overweight (16 pounds) and blind. There are also odd growths on the top of his skin, like tumors (they apparently are not painful to him though) and he had kidney stones earlier in his life. He was also neutered when he got the kidney stones taken out. Over the past 3 or 4 months, it's been downhill, he will not take walks and refuses to bark at the door when he needs to go outside to do his business, which means he's constantly going to the bathroom in the house, on the carpet, everywhere, missing the puppy pads we bought for him. He has diarrhea and it smells horrible. He doesn't have any stamina and sleeps all day long. My family certainly doesn't want to put him down because we love him, but should we wait until he dies naturally? or put him down?

Is it time to put my dog to sleep?
First of all...I'm so sorry your doggie is going through this and also, because I know how hard this must be for both.

We too are going through a similar experience-our 17yr old Shi-Tzu is having senior dog health issues also and I'm in your shoes.

Best advise given so far is to see your Vet and get a medical opinion on whether or not the doggie has any quality of life.

Our little girl isn't in pain but she too is peeing everywhere, is blind and mostly deaf. However she still has a good appetite and drinks plenty of water. In our case we have decided to hold on for a bit longer. We try to make her life as comfortable as possible: lifting her to sit in her favorite spot high upon the sofa, carrying her up the stairs after being outside and giving her extra attention and love.

Condolences to your family.
Reply:put it out of its misery
Reply:I really am sorry to tell you this, but I think you should put him down. According to your description that dog is miserable, and if you are religious, he will be in a better place when he dies. So, yes I think it's time to put him down.
Reply:keep the dog wait until it is his time

until then try to get an other puppy from the shelter
Reply:It is sad but I would suggest putting him down because I think he would be much happier.
Reply:It sounds like he doesn't have much of a life at the moment. Sometimes putting a pet to sleep is the kindest thing you can do for them. After 14 years, it is hard to let go, but may be the best thing. You can be with him at the end.
Reply:That's a horrible thing for you to deal with. And I'm sorry you have to do it. But, if you love the dog, then you probably should. He sounds unhappy, and you wouldn't want to be miserable if you were him. Just go buy him a burger and some fries and give him a happy day. Then leave him with the vet to be put down. It's the right thing to do.
Reply:If there is no suffering let him die naturally. If there is suffering put him down. Is he fighting hard for his life? Trying hard to live? Chart down any signs of extreme pain. If the list get's over 20 signs in a week I would say put him down.
Reply:Have the vet check him out. But it sounds like its time to let him go. I'm sorry. :( If the vet says he should be put down, he'll do it right there as long as he has your permission.
Reply:I know this is hard... my friend just put her dog to sleep. I would say let him go. I know putting him to sleep will be hard but... put the dog out of it`s misery!!
Reply:Talk to your vet about it. If he is sleeping all day long and seems happy, and doesnt seem to be in pain or anything then there really isnt a need to put him to sleep. But ifyou think he would be in a better place then I guess it would be something to consider. I'm sorry to hear about it, and good luck
Reply:It sounds like it's time to let him go. It's never easy (I've done it way too many times for beloved but sick pets), but is it any easier to see him suffering and not able to do things he used to do?

This is a gift you can give him - to let him die painlessly and to finally *end* his suffering. In many cases we're not able to do that for humans.

Give him a last great meal (my dog got fried eggs served to her at the kitchen table), take him in and let him go. Then do something for yourself in memory of your friend. (I got a new piercing - whatever works, right?) You'll be sad for a while, no doubt, but given what you wrote it seems like the right thing to do.

Good luck.
Reply:Sounds like he is miserable. If i were you i would put him down, out of his misery. I know you love him but Your dog if you look at it sounds like he is already in bad shape IT is his time to go. Here is what you do to make it less painful spend a day with your dog treat it the best you can then when it is time to put him down there you go...you realize it is not a total loss at least you would have great memories...but i don't know it is up to you, just look at it from all angle's. Make sure you really want to do that or keep him till he dies.
Reply::( put him to sleep and out of his misery. i had to do it to my 18 year old shih tzu.. i hated to do it and i cried for weeks...she was a member of the fam but in the end she was suffering and that was worse to think of. The issues with diarrhea and smell are because the cancer is eating his body...he's already dying but slowly. Dont torture him. humans tend to selfish about this but dont put him through it!
Reply:What has your vet said? There are medications the vet can prescribe that will help with incontinence. The diarrhea can also be controlled. If this dog is in pain, or if he has no joy left in his life, I would have him put down. If he's ill enough that you think he should be put down, you can't put him through the misery of dragging it out and letting him die naturally over a period of perhaps many months. If you make the decision that it's time, it would be easiest on your dog to have your vet come to the house - no stress involved at all for your dog.
Reply:Well i think its the end of your poor dogs life and that if his strength is going downhill and he is sleeping all day, its best to put him down.

consider this: he is not going to get back to normal weight if he dosen't take walks, if he is blind then he is blind then he will not use the puppy pads because he can't see them, and most likley he will die a painfuol death because of those tumors on his skin.

I'm sorry but you will have to out him to sleep, its the most humane option and safest for the little guy.
Reply:I wouldn't let it die its self
Reply:hun u know in ur heart if the dog is miserable if ur heart aches for him then yes i would say its time.. jus remember all the good times dont be sad it over be happy u had the time u did with him.. dont feel bad for him if he is suffering which it sounds as tho he is then he will be going to a much better and peaceful place and he will have his younger body back he is better off sweetie jus make the decision and u will feel so much better cause u will know hes better off i know its hard but all things in life are hard when it comes to loving somthing and letting it go.. jus know in ur heart u are doin this because its best for him maybe not for u dont be selfish hun give him peace good luck sweetie
Reply:As a dog-lover -"Yes".

"Quality of life" is as important to animals as humans. We can instruct family, or make a "Living Will" that we don't want any surgery or treatment, etc.

Animals cannot. But there comes a time when their 'enjoyment of life'/"Pursuit of Happiness" is so limited it isn't really there.

I've got a 13yr old dog. It's Summer here and I leave the back door open. From 2 - 4am this morning, after a normal diet, he had severe internal problems I could hear from two rooms and a hall away. Then he'd get up and go outside.

Come Winter - I think it might be his time, if it continues.

Do you want to remember your loving, lively pet, or the frail one you're talking about now?

I always cry, but there does come a time.
Reply:sheepeshlysheepy I am sorry to say but your dog is suffering....

I...*sniffle* had ..........*sniffle* to put my dog to sleep to!!!

I luved him sooo much but he had all legs broken and couldn't walk ever again... when I went to sleep with him his eyes seemed so hopless and sad...

2 days later knew it was time...

Your dog is suffering and if u no wats best for him put him down..

Good luck....
Reply:I would take your dog to the vet and see what they say. He may be in pain. Maybe there are medications that can help. At that point you can make a better educationed desision. Playing God and having to choose the dogs fate is hard, especially to that of a member of the family.
Reply:It sounds as if the greatest act of love you can do for him is to euthanize him.

Think about it; how do you think he feels spending the rest of his life in this state? You know he's only going to get worse and not better.

Think about this too; instead of the last moment of his life feeling like this, you are giving him the opportunity to give the last second of his life pain-free as he slips away.

It's been nearly a year now, since I had to make that heart-wrenching decision with my cat, but I certainly do not regret the end to his suffering.

My best wishes of heart-healing to you!
Reply:Hi, I would definately put him down. He has lived a long life and when the quality of life is not there, that is a signal to the owner of the pet that it's time. If you let him die naturally you may be letting him suffer more than he has to. I watched my husband's dog die naturally and it wasn't a pretty sight. I felt awful for the poor animal. I personally had my cat put down because it had kidney failure and after taking care of it for 6 months doing treatments, he started to pee involuntarily whenever I picked him up. The next day I had him put down so he wouldn't feel anymore pain than he had to. It is a sad yet loving event to put down an animal. It shows the love that you had for your pet. I wish you the best. A new animal will help heal your pain. I have a new kitten now and he's a sweetheart.
Reply:i think that you should wait he may just have a really bad stomache virus id wait till it got worse so you wouldnt have to lose somthing so close to you.
Reply:I know it will be very hard, since you have been with he soon long, but you need to put him down. With our dog, it was so hard watching her go through everything, we wanted to help and take her pain away. Dogs aren't suppose to outlive us, which means a lot of us will have to make this kind of choice. Ask his vet for another opinion, just to have something to go by.
Reply:If he's not in any pain, I would let him live.Geez, listen to these people..If they had a family member who was getting old and slept a lot to go along with other things that comes with age, would they take them out back and shoot them too?!
Reply:I know that this is a hard decision for you, but do what your heart tells you to do. Also think about what you would want done in that situation, if you knew your time was near and you were basically on life support, would you want them to go ahead and let you go and stop holding on to something that was out of their control. Good luck and my deepest sympathy is with you and your family
Reply:First of all make sure you consult your veterinarian about his condition immediately, especially the tumors or growths. Lack of exercise and poor diet and nutrition that leads to obesity can/will lead to a shortened life. With the proper care cats and dogs can live into their 20's or even early 30's.

A lot has to do with heredity, environment, etc... so it's not a guarantee that any cat or dog will live that long but 14 really ins't that old... regardless of what some people may say. Unfortunately there are too many times where our pets just get too far along in an illness and there is little we can do.

If your pet is truly suffering and you feel this is your only option to end pain then this is a personal decision that no one in this group can make for you. It's a tough decision as well. You may also consider natural alternatives to possibly help turn his immune system around to fight any illness and start a natural diet (and NOT most of the poor quality food found in stores) to help with weight loss. Make sure to work with your vet immediately!

I hope it's not too late and I wish you the best for your companion.
Reply:I have had to be in the same situation my self. You have to realize your pet is in the last stages of life. To me its better to let them go and not suffer any more. The love you have for your pet will live on in your heart. You will always have good memories. But right now you need to step back and look at how he is suffering and ask your self is it worth having him to wait in this condition to die on his own? Cause you don't know when time will be. Let him die feeling no pain. Its hard to let go but your pet will thank you for it.
Reply:he definitely sounds like he is getting ready to go, but have you asked your vet if he is suffering? If the dog is not suffering, than I would say NO, you and your family will have to suffer through the smelly stuff and just love him until HE starts to suffer, then it will be time to put him down.
